Introduction to Art is a semester length class offered to 6th graders. This course is designed to introduce students to the Elements of Art, a variety of techniques and media, with a brief introduction to art history and critique. Individual creativity, neatness and respect for the work of others is encouraged. The basics skills of drawing, color theory, and sculpture will be covered. These basics are so important if the student is to gain an awareness and understanding necessary to a deep appreciation and production of fine art.
Objectives:
1. Demonstrate the use of the elements of art.
2. Handle materials and tools correctly and effectively.
3. Create original art in a specific medium.
4. Have fun!
When the student enters 7th and 8th grade, they have the option to take Painting & Drawing, Art Fundamentals, or 3-Dimensional Art. All of these courses are one semester. If you want to take a year long art course, I recommend the following schedule choices:
Art Fundamentals and Painting & Drawing (P & D)
P & D and 3-D Art
Art Fundamentals and 3-D Art
